Clove oil comes from the flower bud of a tree, the clove buds look like little nails. Cloves are used worldwide as a spice and have a long history of use. The Chinese used them medicinally as a warming spice for cooking, digestion and oral care.
Cloves were an ingredient in what is known as Four Thieves oil along with lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary. It was formulated by four thieves during the 15th century plague, they used the blend to protect themselves from the plague when robbing the bodies of the dead.
Uses
Clove essential oil is popular to numb toothache, a drop or two on a cotton ball and held on the painful tooth for a few minutes will bring relief until you can visit the dentist. Mix 8 -10 drops of Clove essential oil to 50ml of carrier oil to massage onto sore aching muscles. Antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal it can be added to natural cleaning products.
Emotional
Clove essential oil encourages endurance and strength, assertiveness and determination. It also helps stimulate deep memories.
Blends with
Basil, Bay Leaf, Bergamot, Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Ginger, Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon, Orange, Peppermint, Rose, Rosemary, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang.
Caution
Never use neat or in high concentration on the skin.
Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas. We do not recommend taking essential oils internally.
