Astragalus root is a traditional qi tonic, used across Chinese and Western herbalism to support long-term immunity, energy, and resilience. Mild and sweet, it’s often simmered into broths, brewed into long infusions, or taken daily in decoctions.
- Traditionally used to strengthen the immune system and support recovery from fatigue
- Used in TCM to tonify Spleen and Lung Qi, aiding digestion and respiratory health
- Gentle adaptogen that helps the body manage stress and build resilience over time
- May support cardiovascular health, kidney function, and healthy aging
- Mild diuretic, supports tissue healing, and promotes energy without stimulation
Decoction (traditional method): Simmer 10–30 g dried slices per litre of water for 20–45 minutes. Drink daily or store refrigerated for later use.
Overnight Infusion: Steep a handful of sliced root in boiling water overnight for a mineral-rich tonic.
Soup/Broth: Add a few slices to chicken soup or bone broth while simmering. Remove before serving.
Immune Blend: Combine with other tonic herbs like ginger, reishi, or licorice for seasonal immune support.
Rotate or take breaks: Long-term tonic use is common, but some take short breaks every few months.
