Elderflower (Sambucus nigra) is a classic herb used for centuries to ease colds, calm allergies, and soothe the skin. Traditionally taken at the first sign of a cold or hay fever, it supports the immune system, clears congestion, and gently reduces fever. With its light floral taste and astringent qualities, it’s a favourite in winter teas, summer cordials, and topical remedies. Our dried flowers are fragrant, clean, and ideal for tea, syrups, and skin care preparations.
- Traditionally used for colds, sinus infections, hay fever, and mild fevers
- Reduces excess mucus and soothes irritated eyes, nose, or throat
- Popular in skin care, herbal tea, syrups, and cordial blends
- Rich in flavonoids, phenolic acids, and volatile oils for antioxidant support
- Mild astringent and anti-inflammatory — calming for skin or membranes
Tea: Steep 1–2 tsp dried flowers in hot water for 10–15 minutes. Drink 2–3 times daily. Blend with peppermint, yarrow, or ginger for cold relief.
Syrup & cordial: Steep in hot water with lemon and sweetener, then reduce or preserve. Use in drinks, cocktails, or throat-soothing syrup.
Tincture: Take 2–4 mL (1:5) up to 3x/day for immune or allergy support. Combine with elderberry, echinacea, or goldenrod.
Topical: Use cooled tea or infused water as a compress, toner, or eye rinse. Helpful for puffy eyes, acne, sunburn, or irritation.
Culinary: Add to jellies, ferments, elderflower champagne, or baking for a muscat-like floral aroma. Add late to retain flavour.
Elderflower is widely loved for its gentle yet effective properties, especially at the change of seasons. Customers use it in winter teas, hay fever blends, facial washes, and syrup making. Our elderflower is free from stems and well dried to retain its fragrance and efficacy. Popular in folklore and still valued today, it’s a staple of herbal first-aid and kitchen wellness. Keep airtight for best results, and store away from strong odours or moisture.
