Maca powder (Lepidium meyenii) is a nutritious Andean root vegetable that has been cultivated at over 4,000 metres altitude in Peru for thousands of years. This certified organic maca powder has a pleasant, nutty, malty flavour with hints of butterscotch, making it one of the most enjoyable herbal powders to add to smoothies, porridge, and baking. Maca is traditionally used as an adaptogenic tonic to support energy, stamina, and overall vitality.

Key Benefits

  • Energy and vitality: Traditionally used in Peruvian herbal tradition to support energy levels, physical stamina, and overall vitality. Valued by Andean communities for centuries as a nourishing food and tonic.
  • Adaptogenic support: Traditionally used to help the body adapt to physical and mental stress, supporting resilience and endurance during demanding periods.
  • Delicious flavour: Unlike many herbal powders, maca has a naturally pleasant, nutty, malty taste with caramel notes. It genuinely improves the flavour of smoothies and shakes.
  • Nutrient-rich: Contains a broad spectrum of amino acids, vitamins (B1, B2, C, E), minerals (iron, calcium, copper, zinc), and unique compounds called macamides and macaenes.
  • Certified organic: Grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers.

Smoothie: Blend 1 to 2 teaspoons of maca powder into a fruit smoothie with banana, cacao, and nut milk for a delicious, energising breakfast drink. The malty flavour pairs especially well with chocolate and banana.

Porridge and baking: Stir into oats, pancake batter, energy balls, or raw treats. The nutty, caramel-like flavour works well in sweet recipes.

Hot maca drink: Stir 1 teaspoon into warm milk (dairy or plant-based) with a pinch of Cinnamon and honey for a warming, nourishing drink. Add Turmeric for a golden maca latte.

Maca grows at extreme altitudes of 4,000 to 4,500 metres in the Peruvian Andes, where few other crops can survive. It thrives in harsh conditions of intense UV radiation, freezing temperatures, and strong winds. Peruvian farmers have cultivated maca for at least 2,000 years, and it was reportedly given to Incan warriors before battle.

Maca is caffeine-free. Its energising effect comes from its nutrient density and adaptogenic compounds, not from stimulants. Non-toxic to dogs and cats in small amounts.

People with hormone-sensitive conditions should consult a healthcare provider before use. Not recommended during pregnancy in large medicinal doses. This information is not a substitute for medical advice. Consult a healthcare provider before use, especially if taking medication.
