Chaga mushroom powder (Inonotus obliquus) is a nutrient-dense functional mushroom with one of the highest antioxidant profiles found in nature. This certified organic chaga mushroom powder has been used for centuries in Siberian and Northern European folk traditions, where it was simmered into a rich, earthy tea valued for its role in supporting general wellbeing and immune health. The flavour is mild and earthy with a slight vanilla note, making it a natural addition to coffee, smoothies, and hot chocolate.

Key Benefits

  • Antioxidant rich: Chaga contains high levels of melanin and polyphenols, giving it one of the highest ORAC (antioxidant capacity) scores of any natural food. Traditionally valued for supporting the body's natural defences.
  • Immune support: Traditionally used to support healthy immune function. Chaga's beta-glucan polysaccharides are the focus of ongoing research into immune system modulation.
  • Coffee alternative: The dark, earthy flavour of chaga tea makes it a popular caffeine-free alternative to coffee. Add to your morning routine for a grounding, warming drink without the jitters.
  • Versatile powder form: Stir into hot water, blend into smoothies, add to coffee, or mix into hot chocolate. Fine powder dissolves easily for convenient daily use.
  • Certified organic: Sourced from certified organic chaga, free from synthetic pesticides and contaminants.

Chaga tea: Add half to one teaspoon of chaga mushroom powder to a cup of hot water and stir well. For maximum extraction, simmer gently for 10 to 15 minutes. The flavour is mild, earthy, and slightly sweet. No sweetener needed for most palates.

Coffee booster: Stir half a teaspoon into your morning coffee or combine with Roasted Dandelion Root for a caffeine-free coffee alternative. Also pairs well with Reishi Mushroom Powder for a dual-mushroom wellness blend.

Smoothies and hot chocolate: Blend a teaspoon into smoothies, golden milk, or hot chocolate for an antioxidant boost with minimal flavour impact.

Chaga is not technically a mushroom but a dense mass of fungal mycelium (called a sclerotium or conk) that grows on birch trees in cold climates. Its dark outer layer is rich in melanin, the same pigment found in human skin, giving it that distinctive charcoal-black colour.

In Siberian folk tradition, chaga was simmered over low heat for hours and drunk daily as a wellness tonic. The Russian novelist Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn referenced chaga's traditional use in his writings, bringing it to broader Western attention in the 1960s.

Chaga is high in oxalates. Not suitable for people with kidney disease or a history of kidney stones. Avoid if taking blood-thinning medication. Limit daily intake to under 3.6 grams. This information is not a substitute for medical advice. Consult a healthcare provider before use, especially if pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medication.
