Couch grass (Agropyron repens) is a soothing and cooling rhizome traditionally used to support the urinary system, bladder comfort, and gentle detox. It’s commonly simmered into tea or used in herbal blends for people and pets.

  • Traditionally used to soothe the bladder and support urinary tract health
  • May help flush out minor urinary gravel or reduce irritation during UTIs
  • Demulcent, mildly diuretic, and anti-inflammatory in action
  • Sometimes included in kidney or spring cleanse tea blends
  • Used in natural pet remedies to support urine flow and bladder comfort

Decoction: Simmer 1–2 tsp per cup for 10–15 mins. Drink 2–3 times daily for urinary comfort or gentle cleansing.

Kidney/Detox Blends: Often paired with nettle, dandelion leaf, or parsley in supportive formulas.

For Pets: Brew a mild tea and add a small amount to food or water (½ tsp per 10 kg body weight for dogs).

Tincture: Used less commonly; dose varies (5–15 mL/day). Check with a practitioner for use in pets or sensitive individuals.

Other Uses: Can be added to sitz baths, washes for irritated skin, or used in folk magic as protective "witchgrass."

Often overlooked, couch grass is a traditional urinary remedy with soothing and clearing effects. Most commonly used short-term at the first sign of discomfort, or seasonally during gentle cleanses. Pet owners also use it in natural UTI blends for dogs and cats.

Contains natural mucilage, potassium, and silica. Store airtight and use within 12 months for best strength.

  • Actions: Demulcent, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, mild antimicrobial, tonic
  • Systems: Urinary, digestive, integumentary
  • Energetics: Cooling, moistening
  • Common pairings: Marshmallow root, nettle, bearberry, hydrangea, cramp bark
  • Folklore: Known as witchgrass, used in folk magic for protection and uncrossing

Couch Grass

I usually purchase the 500g pack but they weren't available so decided to purchase the 250g packs. The taste of the tea in these smaller packs is distinctly different. It tastes as though it has been processed using chlorine or something of that nature. Again a very different taste. Not as happy as I have been with the larger packs.
