This Australian-grown ginkgo biloba leaf (Ginkgo biloba) comes from one of the oldest living tree species on earth, with a fossil record stretching back over 200 million years. Dried ginkgo leaf is traditionally used to support healthy circulation and cognitive function, and makes a pleasant, mildly bitter tea. As a dried whole leaf, it is best prepared as a longer infusion to extract its beneficial flavonoids and unique terpene compounds.

Key Benefits

  • Circulation support: Traditionally used to support healthy blood flow and peripheral circulation, particularly to the hands, feet, and brain.
  • Cognitive function: One of the most widely studied herbs for cognitive support. Ginkgo leaf has been used in traditional herbal practice to support memory and mental clarity.
  • Unique phytochemistry: Contains flavonoid glycosides and terpene trilactones (ginkgolides and bilobalide) that are found in no other plant species on earth.
  • Australian grown: Sourced from trees grown right here in Australia, supporting local agriculture and reducing food miles.
  • Living fossil: Ginkgo trees have survived virtually unchanged for over 200 million years, making them older than the dinosaurs.

Ginkgo tea: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried ginkgo leaf to a cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 to 15 minutes (longer than most herbal teas, as the leaves need time to release their compounds). Strain and drink up to 2 to 3 cups daily. The flavour is mildly bitter with a grassy note.

Blending: Pairs well with Gotu Kola for a traditional cognitive support blend, or with Rosemary for a circulation-focused tea. Try adding Peppermint for a fresher flavour that balances the mild bitterness.

Six ginkgo trees survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945 and are still alive today. The ginkgo is the sole surviving member of its entire botanical division, with no close living relatives. It is sometimes called a "living fossil."

Ginkgo fossils have been found in Australia, dating from when the continent was still part of Gondwana. The distinctive fan-shaped leaf has inspired artists and designers for centuries and is the official symbol of the city of Tokyo.
