St Mary's thistle powder (Silybum marianum), also known as milk thistle powder, is one of the most widely used herbs for liver support worldwide. This finely ground seed powder contains silymarin, a group of flavonolignans that have been the subject of extensive research. Traditionally used for over 2,000 years to support liver health and aid digestion, milk thistle powder is easy to add to smoothies, yoghurt, or food.

The name "St Mary's thistle" comes from a legend that the distinctive white veins on the plant's leaves were caused by drops of the Virgin Mary's milk falling onto them. This is also the origin of its other common name, milk thistle.
Milk thistle is one of the few herbs also used in veterinary medicine. It is commonly recommended by veterinarians to support liver function in dogs and cats, making it safe to have around pets.
