Stevia leaf (Stevia rebaudiana) is nature's sweetener. These certified organic dried leaves are approximately 30 times sweeter than sugar, yet contain virtually no calories. Used for centuries to sweeten yerba mate tea, stevia leaf offers a genuinely natural way to reduce sugar intake. Unlike refined white stevia extracts, whole dried stevia leaf retains its full spectrum of plant compounds, delivering a more rounded sweetness with subtle herbaceous notes.

Key Benefits

  • Natural stevia sweetener: Approximately 30 times sweeter than sugar, with virtually zero calories. A few leaves in your cup replaces a teaspoon of sugar.
  • Whole leaf, minimally processed: Simply dried and nothing else. No chemical extraction, bleaching, or refining. What you get is pure, whole stevia leaf.
  • Certified organic: Grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. Free from the additives (erythritol, maltodextrin) commonly found in commercial stevia products.
  • Versatile sweetening: Use in teas, smoothies, baking, or make your own liquid stevia extract at home. Works beautifully as a natural sweetener in herbal tea blends.
  • Suitable for many diets: Naturally gluten-free and vegan. A practical option for those managing sugar intake or following low-calorie diets.

As a tea sweetener: Drop 2 to 3 whole dried stevia leaves into your cup along with your chosen herbal tea. Steep for 5 to 10 minutes. The longer you steep, the sweeter and more herbaceous the flavour. Start with fewer leaves and adjust to your taste. Works especially well with Peppermint, Chamomile, and Hibiscus.

Stevia powder: Crush dried leaves in a mortar and pestle or spice grinder. Use approximately 1 tablespoon of ground stevia plant leaf to replace 1 cup of sugar. Start with less and adjust, as over-sweetening can produce a slight licorice-like aftertaste.

Homemade liquid extract: Steep a small handful of dried leaves in hot water for 15 to 20 minutes. Strain and refrigerate. Use drops to sweeten beverages, smoothies, or recipes.

The Guarani people called stevia "ka'a he'e" (sweet herb) and used it for over a thousand years to sweeten bitter mate tea. Most supermarket stevia sugar products are blends where erythritol or maltodextrin is the bulk ingredient. Whole dried stevia leaf is the most natural, unprocessed form available.

Stevia is classified as non-toxic to dogs, cats, and horses by the ASPCA. However, some stevia-sweetened products contain xylitol, which is dangerous for dogs. This pure dried stevia leaf does not contain xylitol.

Stevia belongs to the daisy family (Asteraceae), so those with Asteraceae allergies should use with caution. May interact with diabetes and blood pressure medications.
