Tribulus powder (Tribulus terrestris) is one of the most widely used herbs in both Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine. Known as Gokshura in Ayurveda and Bai Ji Li in TCM, this certified organic aerial parts powder carries a long tradition of use for supporting vitality, stamina, and urinary system health. Australians may know this plant better as caltrop or bindii, the spiny weed that punctures bicycle tyres and bare feet, but in traditional medicine it has been valued for thousands of years.
Key Benefits
- Traditional vitality tonic: Classified as a Rasayana (rejuvenator) in Ayurvedic medicine, tribulus has been traditionally used to support energy, stamina, and overall vitality.
- Urinary system support: Traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine to support healthy urinary flow and the normal functioning of the urinary tract.
- Reproductive health: Traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine to support reproductive system health in both men and women.
- Certified organic: Grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. Free from the contamination concerns that can affect conventionally sourced tribulus products.
- Rich in saponins: Contains naturally occurring steroidal saponins, including protodioscin. Research into tribulus extract benefits continues to grow, and this whole herb powder offers a natural alternative to tribulus supplement capsules.
In smoothies: Add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of tribulus powder to smoothies, protein shakes, or juice. Orange or cranberry juice works well to complement the taste. Taking with food or a source of fat (such as nut butter or coconut oil) may improve absorption of the saponin compounds.
Warm water: Mix 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon with warm water and a little honey. In the traditional Ayurvedic method, mix the powder into a paste with honey first, then add warm water. Pairs well with Ashwagandha Powder for a traditional vitality blend, or with Shatavari for reproductive system support.
Capsules: The powder can be packed into empty vegetable capsules for those who prefer to avoid the taste. A typical daily amount is 250 to 750 mg.
The Ayurvedic name "Gokshura" comes from "Go" (cow) and refers to the spiny fruits that would prick cows' hooves as they walked. In TCM, tribulus was first documented in the Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing around 71 AD, one of the earliest Chinese medicine texts.
Tribulus is toxic to dogs and livestock. The plant's saponins can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, and lethargy in dogs, with smaller breeds being more susceptible. Keep this product stored securely away from all pets.
