Cleavers herb (Galium aparine), also known as goosegrass or sticky willy, is one of the most valued lymphatic herbs in the Western herbal tradition. Cleavers belongs to the Rubiaceae family, making it a botanical relative of coffee. The small round seeds of cleavers were historically roasted and ground as a caffeine-free coffee substitute. The common name "bedstraw" comes from its traditional use as mattress stuffing, where the tiny hooks on the stems held the filling together.
Cleavers is generally considered safe for dogs and cats. The plant is widely eaten by geese (hence "goosegrass") and other birds in the wild.
