Cleavers herb (Galium aparine), also known as goosegrass or sticky willy, is one of the most valued lymphatic herbs in the Western herbal tradition. This certified organic cleavers has been traditionally used to support healthy lymphatic function, promote clear skin, and assist the body's natural cleansing processes. Cleavers tea has a mild, fresh, slightly grassy flavour that is pleasant to drink and blends well with other herbs.

Key Benefits

  • Lymphatic support: Traditionally used in Western herbal medicine to support healthy lymphatic system function and promote natural fluid drainage. One of the first herbs herbalists reach for when lymphatic support is needed.
  • Spring cleansing: Traditionally used as a spring tonic and gentle cleansing herb. Cleavers appears fresh in early spring and has long been gathered as one of the first herbs of the season.
  • Skin support: Traditionally used to support clear, healthy skin from the inside. Often included in skin health tea blends alongside nettle and burdock.
  • Gentle urinary support: Traditionally used as a mild, cooling diuretic to support healthy urinary function.
  • Certified organic: Grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers.

Tea infusion: Add 2 teaspoons of dried cleavers to a cup of freshly boiled water. Cover and steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain and drink up to 3 cups daily. The flavour is mild and fresh.

Lymphatic blend: Combine cleavers with Nettle Leaf and Dandelion Root for a classic spring cleansing tea. Add Peppermint for a refreshing finish.

Cold infusion: Place 2 to 3 tablespoons in a jar of cold water overnight in the fridge. Strain and drink in the morning. Cold infusion is the traditional way to prepare cleavers and is thought to best preserve its gentle properties.

Cleavers belongs to the Rubiaceae family, making it a botanical relative of coffee. The small round seeds of cleavers were historically roasted and ground as a caffeine-free coffee substitute. The common name "bedstraw" comes from its traditional use as mattress stuffing, where the tiny hooks on the stems held the filling together.

Cleavers is generally considered safe for dogs and cats. The plant is widely eaten by geese (hence "goosegrass") and other birds in the wild.
