Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum) is one of the most revered medicinal mushrooms, with a history of use spanning over 2,000 years in traditional herbalism. These dried reishi mushroom slices are the whole fruiting body, ideal for preparing a slow-simmered decoction that extracts the full spectrum of beneficial compounds. Reishi benefits include support for healthy immune function and overall resilience, and the mushroom's rich content of beta-glucans and triterpenes has made it one of the most studied fungi worldwide.

Key Benefits

  • Immune support: Traditionally used to support healthy immune system function. One of the most valued reishi mushroom benefits, attributed to its beta-glucan and triterpene content.
  • Adaptogenic properties: Traditionally used to help the body adapt to everyday stress and support overall resilience and vitality.
  • Calm and balance: Traditionally used to promote a sense of calm and support restful sleep, unlike stimulating varieties.
  • Whole fruiting body: Dried sliced reishi mushroom, providing the full range of naturally occurring compounds. Ideal for decoction or long-simmered broths.
  • Versatile preparation: Simmer in water for reishi tea, add to soups and bone broths, or use as the base for a homemade tincture.

Reishi tea (decoction): Add 3 to 5 slices of dried reishi mushroom to 3 to 4 cups of water. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 to 2 hours. The longer the simmer, the stronger the extraction. Strain and drink 1 to 2 cups daily. The flavour is earthy and mildly bitter.

Blending: For a comprehensive immune blend, combine with Astragalus Root. Pair with Lions Mane powder for cognitive support, or add to bone broth alongside Ginger Root for warmth and flavour.

Known as "lingzhi" in traditional practice, reishi was so highly prized that it was reserved for royalty and depicted in ancient artwork as a symbol of longevity and good fortune. Wild reishi is quite rare, growing on hardwood trees in temperate forests.

Reishi is generally considered non-toxic to dogs, and some veterinary supplements contain reishi extracts. However, consult a veterinarian before giving medicinal mushrooms to pets.
