Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) is the traditional energy drink of South America, enjoyed as a daily mate tea by millions of people across Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and southern Brazil. This certified organic yerba mate contains natural caffeine (about 85 mg per cup, similar to coffee) along with theobromine and a rich array of antioxidants. The energy from yerba mate is often described as smoother and more sustained than coffee, without the jitters or sharp crash.

Simple tea: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of yerba mate to a cup of hot water (70 to 80 degrees, not boiling). Steep for 3 to 5 minutes. Strain and drink. The flavour is earthy, grassy, and slightly bitter. Add honey or lemon to taste.
Traditional mate: Fill a gourd (mate) two-thirds full with yerba mate. Insert a metal straw (bombilla) and add warm water. Sip and refill. Traditionally shared in a group, with one person (the cebador) preparing and refilling for everyone.
Energy blend: Combine with Peppermint for a refreshing pick-me-up, or with Ginger Root and Lemongrass for a warming, energising tea.
