Horsetail tea (Equisetum arvense) is one of nature's richest plant sources of silica, a mineral essential for healthy connective tissue. This certified organic horsetail herb has been traditionally used for centuries to support hair, skin, nail, and bone health. The horsetail tea benefits are well known among herbalists, and the dried leaf makes a mild, earthy infusion that is easy to include in a daily routine. Whether you are looking for a natural source of silica or traditional urinary support, horsetail is a versatile addition to the herbal cupboard.

Key Benefits

  • Natural silica source: One of the richest plant sources of bioavailable silica, traditionally used to support strong hair, nails, and healthy skin. The horsetail benefits for beauty and wellness are well documented in traditional herbal medicine.
  • Bone and joint support: Traditionally used to support healthy bone density and connective tissue. Silica plays a role in collagen formation.
  • Urinary support: Traditionally used as a mild diuretic to support healthy urinary function and fluid balance.
  • Certified organic: Dried horsetail leaf grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers.
  • Rich in minerals: Contains silica, potassium, manganese, and flavonoids including quercetin and kaempferol.

Horsetail tea: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried horsetail to a cup of boiling water. Cover and steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain and drink up to 2 cups daily. A longer steep helps extract more silica from the tough plant material.

Blending: For a hair and nail support blend, combine with Nettle Leaf, another mineral-rich herb. For a soothing urinary blend, try pairing with Marshmallow Root. Also pairs well with Peppermint to brighten the earthy flavour.

Hair rinse: Brew a strong infusion (2 tablespoons per cup), cool, and use as a final hair rinse after shampooing for added shine and strength.

Horsetail is a true living fossil. Its ancestors grew as tall as trees during the Carboniferous period, over 300 million years ago. The modern plant is a direct descendant of those ancient giants, making Equisetum one of the oldest plant genera on Earth.

Horsetail is not recommended for dogs or cats, as the plant contains thiaminase, an enzyme that can break down thiamine (vitamin B1) with prolonged exposure. Keep dried horsetail stored safely away from pets.

Not suitable for those with kidney disorders or taking diuretic medications. Not recommended for long-term continuous use without professional guidance. This information is not a substitute for medical advice. Consult a healthcare provider before use, especially if pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medication.
