Goldenrod (Solidago virgaurea) is one of the most well-established herbs in European herbal medicine for urinary and kidney support. This certified organic goldenrod herb has a pleasant, mildly sweet flavour and is recognised by both the European Medicines Agency and ESCOP for its traditional use in supporting healthy urinary tract function. Goldenrod tea is a staple of European kidney health blends.
Key Benefits
- Urinary tract support: Traditionally used in European herbal medicine to support healthy urinary tract function and promote comfortable urination. Formally recognised by the EMA for this traditional use.
- Kidney support: Traditionally used to support healthy kidney function and promote natural fluid balance. A key ingredient in traditional European kidney tea formulas.
- Joint comfort: Traditionally used in herbal medicine to support joint comfort and ease occasional stiffness.
- Pleasant flavour: Unlike many medicinal herbs, goldenrod tea has a mildly sweet, honey-like flavour that makes it enjoyable to drink on its own.
- Certified organic: Grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers.
Tea infusion: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried goldenrod to a cup of freshly boiled water. Cover and steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain and drink up to 3 cups daily. Ensure adequate water intake throughout the day.
Kidney blend: Combine goldenrod with Birch Leaf, Nettle Leaf, and Dandelion Leaf for a classic European kidney support formula.
Joint support blend: Pair goldenrod with Meadowsweet for a traditional joint comfort tea.
Despite a common misconception, goldenrod does not cause hay fever. The real culprit is ragweed, which blooms at the same time. Goldenrod pollen is too heavy and sticky to become airborne and is carried by insects, not wind.
Thomas Edison experimented with goldenrod as a source of natural rubber during the 1920s. He successfully produced rubber from Solidago and even received a set of goldenrod rubber tyres from Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone.
