Learn more about this collection

Spring is the time to plant herbs that need warmth to thrive. Basil in all its varieties is the star of spring planting, alongside chillies, lemongrass, turmeric and ginger. Wait until the risk of cold nights has passed before planting these out.

Spring is also a good time for a second planting of cool-season herbs like coriander, dill and parsley before the summer heat arrives. And it is the last chance to plant stevia, ashwagandha and other warm-season perennials that need a full growing season to establish.

All herb plants are certified organic and grown at our Gold Coast nursery. We ship by Express Post on Mondays and Tuesdays to most Australian states (excluding WA, NT and TAS).

    Frequently asked questions

What herbs should I plant in spring in Australia?

Spring is the time for warm-season herbs: basil (all varieties), chillies, lemongrass, turmeric, ginger, stevia and other tropical and subtropical herbs. You can also do a succession planting of cool-season herbs like coriander and dill before summer heat arrives.

When is it safe to plant basil in spring?

Wait until night temperatures are consistently above 10 degrees before planting basil outside. In subtropical areas like the Gold Coast, this is usually from September. In cooler southern states, late October or November is safer. Basil is very sensitive to cold and will not recover from a late frost.

Can I still plant Mediterranean herbs in spring?

Yes, though autumn and winter are generally better. If you plant rosemary, thyme or sage in spring, give them extra water through summer until their roots are well established. They will cope better in their second summer once they have had time to settle in.

Do you ship herb plants in spring?

Yes, we ship year-round by Express Post on Mondays and Tuesdays to most Australian states (excluding WA, NT and TAS). Spring is our busiest season, so popular varieties can sell out. If something is out of stock, check back regularly as we propagate new batches throughout the season. See our shipping information page for details.
