Botanical Name: Centella asiatica

Gotu Kola is found growing wild over large areas of North America, South America, Asia and Australia.

Thai people use gotu kola as a drink sweetened with palm sugar, Sri Lankans make a sambal with the leaves, fresh coconut and lime juice. Sprinkle the leaves into salads, curries and soups.

Research has shown it contains substance that increases collagen production and improves circulation, which speeds healing of wounds and burns and reduces scarring.

Centella asiatica is also known as pennywort or the arthritis herb and many people have relieved their arthritis by eating 2 -3 leaves a day. It has anti-inflammatory properties as well as improving circulation and strengthening blood vessels giving rise to its use for varicose and spider veins, haemorrhoids and for improving memory and mental clarity.

Because of the many traditional uses of the herb it is often used as a general tonic.

Growing Conditions

Gotu Kola is a creeping perennial which prefers a moist position and full sun to filtered sunlight.

So easy

I hesitantly decided to order some plants on line but was so very pleasantly surprised by how easy it was. The plants arrived promptly in excellent condition. They came with instructions - which we followed and now we have a potful of healthy plants. If you can't get to the Herb Cottage in person, ordering on line is the next best thing. The staff make it so easy and you are supported through the entire process. Just fabulous - thanks everyone there.

Gotu kola and brahmi

I bought the dried herb for tea - good brewing instructions, good quality dried leaf. Also bought the plant to see how it would go and its doing well so far just in a big glass jar indoors with dappled sunlight. Brahmi plants are also thriving, didnt mind the deluge, also in pots outside ready to nibble at here and there Easy planting instructions on the labels and more detail online. Such a wonderful source of herb knowledge that we get to share in. Thank you
