All of our Herb Plants are grown organically with certified organic potting mixes and fertilizers

Botanical Name: Mentha x piperita

Peppermint is a perennial spreading herb with dark green leaves and reddish stems. The true Peppermint is a sterile hybrid derived from a cross between Mentha aquatica and M. spicata. Seeds sold and labeled peppermint generally will not germinate into true peppermint, but often produce a less intensely scented spearmint-like plant.

The leaves have a sharp, spicy taste hot at first but at the same time cooling, they can be used to flavour desserts, drinks, teas, sauces, salads, liqueurs and some vegetables.

An infusion of the leaves helps relieve indigestion and flatulence, relaxes muscles in the digestive tract and stimulates bile flow. Reduces nausea. Improves concentration and helps kill bacteria, parasites and viruses in the stomach. It can also bring relief to headaches. Promotes sweating in fever and flu, clears nasal congestion. Peppermint essential oil is widely used in aromatherapy for its therapeutic benefits.

Growing Conditions

Peppermint thrives in moist positions with filtered sun as it grows quickly by underground runners; it is often grown in pots to restrict growth. Use a good quality potting mix, topped with a slow release fertilizer or good organic compost. A liquid feed every few weeks will keep it growing well. Pinching back the growing tips will encourage a more bushy growth.

Rated 5 out of 5. Herb cottage is the best. My mint peppermint arrived all the way down in Melbourne by Wednesday after being sent on Monday and it was in great shape!! I gave the mint peppermint seedlings some weak sea weed fertilizer and then a weak watered down mix of pyrethrum for herbs, fungicide for herbs and mite spray for herbs about 300ml of the treatment from Bunnings with 1 litir of water sprayed on the plants lightly same day they arrived followed by a good water after letting them settle into there new pot for a few hours I left the treatment on for 10 minutes before watering them again and they look extremely happy in my grow light setup! Rated 5 out of 5. Great herbs. These peppermint seedlings arrived well packed. The instructions were really easy to understand and they have frown so much that I need a bigger pot for each one. First time I have bought seedlings on the internet and will definitely get some more Julie Branaghan , November 2021.

Rated 5 out of 5. Fantastic service. I ordered a peppermint plant, it was a little larger than i anticipated when it arrived but that was great. The video they sent to my email helped me care for it during the early days and when i noticed mould on the top layer of soil from my overwatering i was able to email and ask for advice with a very prompt response. The plant is thriving and proving to be one of my hardiest even though its growing indoors under grow lights! Jo Mackie , November 2021.
