Bergamot is a citrus tree that is grown primarily for the production of the essential oil, which is extracted from the rind. It is similar to an orange only the flesh and juice is very acidic, sour and bitter. The popular British tea ‘Earl Grey Tea’ is a black tea flavoured with the essential oil of bergamot.
Bergamot essential oil is beneficial for oily skin. It also brings relief to cold sores, acne, eczema, psoriasis and ulcers. To a 50ml bottle of carrier oil add 3-8 drops of bergamot essential oil to use as a stimulating neck massage to clear the mind and improve concentration.
For insomnia mix 3 drops of the essential oil to a tablespoon of powdered milk before adding to a warm bath, relax in the bath for about 15 to 20 minutes for a restful sleep.
Use 3 drops of Bergamot essential oil in a diffuser or in a room spray to lighten depression, calm the nerves and lift the spirits.
