Comfrey ointment is helpful in any inflammatory swelling and reduces inflammation associated with sprains and broken bones.
Made at Mudbrick Herb Cottage from comfrey plants grown organically on our property.
Comfrey has been traditionally used in various applications. The roots and leaves contain Allantoin, a substance thought to promote cell renewal, and Rosmarinic acid, which, along with the tannins, is believed to have soothing properties.
Our Bumps & Bruises Comfrey ointment is designed to help support the skin's natural healing process and can be used for:
- Minor burns
- Bruises
- Dry skin
- Scars
- Inflamed skin
- Sprains
- Tendon strains
- Minor wounds
Caution It is not recommended to use comfrey on deep wounds or if the wound needs stitches. Comfrey can knit the skin too fast and could trap an infection within the wound.
For scrapes and shallow wounds always use an anti-septic herb such as echinacea, calendula or tea tree along with comfrey to disinfect the area to be treated.
Ingredients: Whole plant comfrey (grown on our property), cold pressed extra virgin olive oil and local beeswax not heated or treated.
How much comfrey is in the ointment?
We believe our comfrey ointment is one of the most potent around. Comfrey makes up 17% of the final product.
Each 50g jar has 10g dried leaf/stem and 5g dried root infused in oil. This is equivalent to 100g of fresh leaf/stem and 25g of fresh root. That's a lot of comfrey!
Why an ointment and not a comfrey cream?
We like to make an ointment from our comfrey in preference to cream as ointments stay on the skin longer than creams allowing the herbs medicinal properties to penetrate deep into your skin.
Ointments are also more moisturising for dry, scaly skin as they leave a barrier on the skin holding the moisture in.
