Botanical Name:Moringa oleifera
Common names: drumstick tree, horseradish tree, moringa.
Fast-growing, soft-wooded tree or large shrub with feathery, divided leaves and small creamy-white flowers. In warm climates it can reach 6–8 m, but it is easily kept to 2–3 m with regular pruning. Long, hanging seed pods (“drumsticks”) form after flowering.
Growing conditions

Position: Full sun; best in warm, frost-free areas.

Soil: Well-drained sandy or loam soil. Avoid heavy, waterlogged spots.

Water: Moderate while establishing, then fairly drought tolerant.

Care: Tip prune young plants for bushiness. Cut back once or twice a year to keep the tree low and encourage fresh leafy growth.
How to use:

Leaves can be eaten fresh in small amounts, or cooked like spinach in soups, stews and curries. They can also be dried and powdered as a nutrient-rich “green” to add to food.

Young pods are widely used in South Asian dishes and added to curries and soups.
Moringa leaves are very nutrient dense, containing vitamins, minerals, protein and antioxidants. Traditionally they are used as a general tonic food rather than a strong medicine.
Using moringa as a food herb (leaves and young pods in normal culinary amounts) is the most appropriate way to enjoy this tree.
Moringa makes an excellent “chop-and-drop” mulch tree and its flowers attract bees and other beneficial insects.
Caution: Avoid using the root or bark internally, and avoid high-dose medicinal products in pregnancy, breastfeeding, or with existing medical conditions without professional advice.
