Botanical Name:  Coleus amboinicus Syn Plectranthus amboinicus

Mother of Herbs, often called Mexican Mint, Indian borage or Plectranthus amboinicus, is renowned for its unique, minty, and oregano-like flavour. This robust herb is a staple in various cuisines, particularly for its aromatic contribution to dishes. Beyond its culinary uses, Mother of Herbs is also valued for its medicinal properties, commonly used for soothing coughs and sore throats.

Growing Conditions

Mother of Herbs thrives in Australia's warm and sunny conditions, preferring well-drained soil and a spot with partial to full sunlight. It's a hardy plant, tolerating dry spells but enjoying regular watering for optimal growth. In cooler regions, it's best grown in pots that can be moved indoors during frosty winters, ensuring year-round growth.

All my plants have survived the harsh frosts of Armidale (even the Jasmine which I was willing to take the risk with). I cover it over night and so far so good.
