Dried sage from Salvia officinalis is one of the most versatile herbs in the kitchen and the herbal tea cupboard. This certified organic sage leaf has a warm, earthy, slightly peppery flavour that works as well in a roast dinner as it does steeped as a soothing sage tea. Rich in rosmarinic acid and other polyphenols, sage has been traditionally used for centuries to support digestive comfort and mental clarity.

Key Benefits

  • Culinary herb: A staple in European cooking. Essential for stuffing, roast meats, pasta sauces, and brown butter dishes. The dried leaf has a more concentrated flavour than fresh.
  • Herbal tea: Makes a warm, savoury sage tea that is traditionally used to support digestive comfort and ease occasional sore throats when used as a gargle.
  • Traditional cognitive support: The name "Salvia" comes from the Latin "salvare" (to save). Sage has been traditionally associated with memory and mental clarity, and modern research has investigated these traditional uses.
  • Sore throat gargle: Sage tea used as a gargle is a time-honoured tradition for soothing occasional throat discomfort.
  • Certified organic: Grown without synthetic pesticides, giving you a clean, high-quality herb for both cooking and tea.

Tea: Steep 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried sage leaves in a cup of boiling water for 5 to 10 minutes. Strain and enjoy. Blends well with Lemon Balm for a calming, cognitive-support blend, or with Chamomile for an evening tea.

Gargle: Brew a strong sage tea (2 teaspoons per cup, steeped 15 minutes). Cool to a comfortable temperature and gargle for 30 seconds. Do not swallow.

Cooking: Crumble dried sage leaves directly into stuffing, pasta sauces, roast vegetables, or meat dishes. Use about half the quantity of fresh sage. Pairs beautifully with Thyme and rosemary in classic herb blends.

The medieval School of Salerno posed the famous question: "Why should a man die whilst sage grows in his garden?" Sage was considered so important to health that no household garden was complete without it.

This is culinary sage (Salvia officinalis), not white sage (Salvia apiana) used in smudging ceremonies. While both are in the Salvia genus, they are different species with different traditional uses.
