Botanical Name: Heliotropium Arborescens
Heliotrope ‘Golden’ is an evergreen shrub growing approximately 80cm high and 80 cm wide. The broad, soft leaves have golden tones, but revert to lime green when the plant is grown in part shade. The leaves are like other Heliotropes in their textured appearance, with the familiar veins and oval to elliptical shape. The small clusters of fragrant flowers are mauve-purple and appear from spring to summer.
This light coloured Heliotrope is a hybrid of Heliotropium arborescens and may be called Golden Heliotrope, Golden Glow Heliotrope or Heliotrope ‘Aurea’. The parent species is originally from Peru and grows in a wide range of habitats, from forests to coastal land. It should be noted that all parts of the plant are toxic to both humans and other animals.

Growing Conditions
Heliotrope ‘Golden’ grows in full sun to part shade, but protection may be required for the harsh Australian sun in hot weather. Fertile open soil, with good drainage is required and constant moisture, but not dampness, is ideal. Heavy clay soil or damp, wet ground will result in poor performance. Trimming the plant regularly will help maintain shape and encourage new growth and flowers. Heliotropes may be propagated by seed or by cuttings taken in spring.
