Lemongrass tea (Cymbopogon citratus) is a refreshing, citrus-flavoured herb that is equally at home in the teapot and the kitchen. This certified organic lemongrass has a bright, clean lemon flavour with a hint of ginger, making it one of the most popular and versatile herbal teas available. Lemongrass is traditionally used to support healthy digestive function and promote relaxation, and is a key ingredient in Thai, Vietnamese, and Southeast Asian cooking.

Key Benefits

  • Bright citrus flavour: A naturally caffeine-free tea with a refreshing lemon taste that is enjoyable hot or iced. One of the most pleasant-tasting herbal teas, perfect for everyday drinking.
  • Digestive comfort: Traditionally used in herbal medicine to support healthy digestive function and ease occasional bloating and stomach discomfort after meals.
  • Calming and relaxing: Traditionally used to promote relaxation and support a calm state of mind. A lovely evening tea that pairs well with other calming herbs.
  • Culinary versatility: A staple of Thai and Southeast Asian cooking. Add to curries, soups (Tom Yum, Tom Kha), stir-fries, and marinades for authentic flavour.
  • Certified organic: Grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers.

Tea: Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried lemongrass to a cup of freshly boiled water. Cover and steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Strain and drink hot, or chill for a refreshing iced tea. Add honey and a slice of fresh ginger for a warming variation.

Citrus blend: Combine lemongrass with Lemon Verbena and Lemon Balm for a triple-citrus herbal tea. Add Ginger Root for a warming twist.

Cooking: Add dried lemongrass directly to curries, soups, and broths. Simmer for at least 15 minutes to release the flavour. Use 1 tablespoon of dried lemongrass in place of 1 fresh stalk.

In the Caribbean, lemongrass is known as "fever grass" and is traditionally brewed as a tea during illness. The distinctive lemon scent comes from citral, the same compound found in lemon peel, which makes up around 75% of the essential oil.

Lemongrass grows well in Australian gardens, especially in Queensland and other warm, humid regions. It is generally considered non-toxic to dogs and cats, though the tough leaves can cause mild stomach upset if eaten in large quantities.

Generally very safe as a food and tea. Avoid large medicinal doses during pregnancy. This information is not a substitute for medical advice. Consult a healthcare provider before use, especially if pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medication.
