This certified organic ginger powder (Zingiber officinale) is a finely ground, ready-to-use form of one of the world's most versatile spices. Ginger powder has a warmer, more concentrated flavour than fresh ginger, with deeper spicy notes due to the conversion of gingerols to shogaols during drying. Use it in baking, curries, golden milk, stir-fries, and warming teas. Ginger is also one of the most well-researched herbs for digestive comfort and nausea relief.
Key Benefits
- Culinary essential: A pantry staple for gingerbread, biscuits, cakes, curries, stir-fries, marinades, and warming drinks. More concentrated than fresh ginger, so a little goes a long way.
- Digestive comfort: Traditionally used in herbal medicine to support healthy digestive function and help relieve nausea, travel sickness, and stomach discomfort. One of the most clinically studied herbs for nausea.
- Warming and circulation: Traditionally used to warm the body and support healthy circulation. A classic cold-weather remedy in both Eastern and Western herbal traditions.
- Golden milk ingredient: A key component of golden milk alongside Turmeric Powder, Cinnamon Powder, and black pepper.
- Certified organic: Ground from certified organic ginger root.
Ginger tea: Stir half to one teaspoon of ginger powder into a cup of hot water. Add honey and lemon to taste. For a warming winter blend, combine with Cinnamon and a squeeze of lemon.
Baking: Use in gingerbread, ginger biscuits, ginger cake, pumpkin pie, and spiced muffins. Substitute: use half a teaspoon of ginger powder for every tablespoon of freshly grated ginger.
Cooking: Add to curries, stir-fries, marinades, dressings, and soups. Sprinkle into smoothies for a warming kick. Works beautifully with Galangal Powder in Thai-style dishes.
Dried ginger and fresh ginger have different chemical profiles. During drying, the gingerols in fresh ginger convert to shogaols, which are up to twice as pungent. This is why dried ginger has a hotter, spicier bite. In Ayurvedic medicine, dried ginger (Shunthi) and fresh ginger (Ardrak) are considered different medicines with different properties.
We also stock whole Dried Ginger Root for decoctions and simmering. Ginger is generally considered safe for dogs in small amounts but should be avoided for cats.
Safe as a culinary spice at normal cooking quantities. People taking blood-thinning medications or with gallstones should consult a healthcare provider before using ginger in large supplemental doses. Generally safe during pregnancy in food amounts.
