Sweet paprika (Capsicum annuum) is a vibrant, bright-red spice with a mild, sweet, slightly smoky flavour that adds colour and warmth to dishes without heat. This certified organic sweet paprika powder is ground from carefully dried sweet peppers, producing the rich red colour that makes paprika essential in Hungarian goulash, Spanish chorizo, devilled eggs, and dozens of other classic dishes.

Key Benefits

  • Vibrant colour: Adds a beautiful bright-red hue to any dish. The colour comes from concentrated carotenoids (capsanthin and capsorubin), powerful natural pigments unique to paprika peppers.
  • Mild, sweet flavour: Unlike hot paprika or chilli, sweet paprika adds warmth and depth without heat or spiciness. Perfect for people who want flavour and colour without the burn.
  • Everyday cooking spice: Essential in goulash, chicken paprikash, chorizo-style dishes, devilled eggs, roasted potatoes, hummus, and creamy sauces. Use generously for best results.
  • Rich in vitamin C: Paprika peppers are so rich in vitamin C that the Nobel Prize was awarded to Hungarian scientist Albert Szentgyorgyi for isolating vitamin C from paprika in 1937.
  • Certified organic: Ground from certified organic sweet peppers.

Cooking: Use 1 to 2 tablespoons in goulash, stews, casseroles, and paprikash. Add to roasted vegetables, potato wedges, and rice dishes for colour and flavour. Paprika blooms beautifully when stirred into warm oil or butter.

Seasoning rub: Mix sweet paprika with garlic powder, onion powder, and Black Pepper for a simple chicken or fish seasoning. Combine with Turmeric for an extra colour boost.

Finishing garnish: Sprinkle over hummus, devilled eggs, potato salad, or cream-based soups as a finishing touch. The bright red colour makes dishes look as good as they taste.

Paprika originally comes from the Americas and was brought to Europe by the Spanish in the 16th century. Hungary adopted the pepper so enthusiastically that paprika became the country's national spice. Hungarian cuisine distinguishes eight grades of paprika, from the mildest "kulonleges" (special quality) to the hottest "eros" (strong).

Sweet paprika is not hot. If you want heat, you need hot paprika or chilli powder. This sweet variety is designed for colour and flavour. Safe for dogs and cats in small culinary amounts.

Safe as a culinary spice at normal cooking quantities. People with nightshade sensitivities should be aware that paprika is a Solanaceae family member. This information is not a substitute for medical advice.
