Botanical Name: Rosa x odorata ‘Mutabilis’
Rose Mutabilis, also known as the "Butterfly Rose" or "Rosa Mutabilis," is a species of rose native to China and Southeast Asia. The bush displays a range of butterfly-shaped flowers with a range of palettes that start as soft apricot and age through the pinks to a deep pink, almost crimson colour in Spring to Autumn. The leaves are medium-sized, dark green, with new growth being red, and the stems are a dark reddish colour.
This rose is best grown in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It is drought-tolerant and can handle some cold and some humidity, making it suitable for growing in a range of climates. Pruning occasionally helps to maintain a bushy shrub.
Rose Mutabilis is valued for its long-blooming period, fragrance, and attractive flowers. It is often used as a specimen plant, in borders, or cottage gardens. It is also a popular choice for creating rose hedges.
Roses are the universal symbol of romance. Their soft, delicate petals release a pleasant floral scent and can be incorporated into salads, desserts and drinks for a delicate colour and flavour. Add to herbal tea blends to lift your spirits. Infuse in oil to add to homemade skin care products and massage oils to gently soothe the skin.
