Learn more about this collection

Whether you are looking for a single herb to brew as tea or ingredients for your own blends, this collection brings together the most popular calming dried herbs available in Australia. Each one has a long history in traditional herbal practice.

Passionflower and skullcap are gentle nervines traditionally used to ease restlessness, and we carry both as Australian grown dried herb. Ashwagandha is a well-known adaptogen used in Ayurvedic practice, while chamomile and lemon balm are everyday favourites for a soothing cup before bed. For something less common, try oat straw, lime flower or Californian poppy.

Most of our calming herbs are certified organic. You can check each product page for certification details. We also carry ready-made blends if you prefer not to mix your own. Our Sleep Time Tea and Garden Party Tea both feature calming herbs and are popular starting points.

All dried herbs ship Australia-wide, with Regular Post at $10.95 or Express Post at $12.95. Orders are sent Monday to Thursday.

    About Calming & Relaxation Herbs

Mudbrick Herb Cottage has been supplying dried herbs to Australian homes for over 20 years. Our calming herb collection brings together herbs traditionally used to support relaxation, from well-known favourites to harder-to-find varieties that most health food shops do not stock. All are available as loose dried herb, ready to steep, blend, or use in your own preparations.

If you are new to calming herbs, chamomile or lemon balm are gentle starting points. Store dried herbs in airtight containers away from heat and light, and they will keep their potency for one to two years.

    Frequently asked questions

What are the most popular calming herbs?

Chamomile, passionflower, valerian root, lemon balm and lavender are some of the most widely used calming herbs. Each has a long history in traditional herbal practice. Chamomile and lemon balm are mild and pleasant as everyday teas, while valerian root and passionflower are traditionally used for stronger calming support.

How do I use dried calming herbs?

The simplest way is to brew a herbal tea. Add one to two teaspoons of dried herb to a cup, pour over freshly boiled water, cover and steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Roots like valerian need a longer steep of 10 to 15 minutes. You can also combine several calming herbs to make your own blend, or add them to bath soaks and sachets.

Can I blend different calming herbs together?

Yes, many herbalists recommend blending. A classic combination is chamomile with lemon balm and a pinch of lavender. For a more grounding blend, try ashwagandha with tulsi. Our herbal tea blends collection includes several ready-made calming blends if you prefer not to mix your own.

What is the difference between nervine herbs and adaptogens?

Nervine herbs, such as passionflower and skullcap, are traditionally used for their direct calming effect on the nervous system. Adaptogens, such as ashwagandha and brahmi, are traditionally used to help the body adapt to stress over time. Some people use both types together. Browse our adaptogen herbs collection for more on that category.

    Are your calming herbs organic?

Most of our calming herb range is certified organic. Each product page shows the organic status in the green bar on the product photo. We also carry several Australian grown options, including passionflower, skullcap and Californian poppy, sourced from trusted Australian growers.

Do you ship calming herbs across Australia?

Yes, all dried herbs ship Australia-wide. Regular Post is $10.95 and Express Post is $12.95. Orders are sent Monday to Thursday. See our shipping information page for full details.
