Learn more about this collection

Not every herb can handle an Australian summer, but the ones in this collection love it. Basil is at its most productive in summer heat. Lemongrass and turmeric put on their best growth now. Curry leaf and moringa are also in their element during the warm, humid months.

The key to successful summer planting is timing and care. Plant in the morning or late afternoon, never in the heat of the day. Water deeply and mulch well. Providing afternoon shade for the first week helps new plants cope with the transition from pot to garden.

All herb plants are certified organic and grown at our Gold Coast nursery. We ship by Express Post on Mondays and Tuesdays to most Australian states (excluding WA, NT and TAS).

    Frequently asked questions

What herbs can I plant in summer in Australia?

Tropical and subtropical herbs thrive in summer: basil, lemongrass, turmeric, ginger, curry leaf, moringa, stevia and patchouli. Heat-tolerant leafy herbs like Brazilian spinach and kang kong (water spinach) also do well. Avoid planting cool-season herbs like coriander and dill in the peak of summer as they will bolt quickly.

How do I keep herbs alive in summer heat?

Water deeply in the morning before the heat of the day. Mulch around the base of plants to keep roots cool and retain moisture. Potted herbs may need watering twice daily in extreme heat. If possible, provide afternoon shade for herbs that are wilting in full sun. Mediterranean herbs like rosemary and thyme handle heat better once established.

Is it too hot to plant herbs in summer?

Not if you choose the right varieties and take some care. The herbs in this collection are selected specifically for their heat tolerance. Plant in the morning or late afternoon, water well, and provide temporary shade for the first few days. Avoid planting on days above 35 degrees if possible.

Do you ship herb plants in summer?

Yes, we ship year-round by Express Post on Mondays and Tuesdays. In summer we take extra care with packaging and only ship early in the week to minimise transit time in the heat. Plants to most Australian states arrive within 1 to 2 business days. See our shipping information page for details.
